In the beginning. . . .

I really had no plan on starting yet another trite, unrelenting and uninteresting blog about weight loss and Lap Band surgery. That is, until I joined a support group that really pushed me to do so because of some of the issues I've had. . .and had not. So here I go and I hope I don't bore you all out of your minds. . .

Ok, so April 5, 2010 I have the lap band put in. No biggie, sore after surgery but I'm good after about day 5- at least to do somewhat normal activities. More than anything, I'm ready to lose all of this damned weight!

Why did I go through with such a drastic surgery? Well, first, allow me to say I don't feel the band is anywhere near as drastic as the gastric bypass! PLUS, I still have my duodenum in place to take up nutrients my body needs- the duodenum is removed in the bypass procedure, thus, the reason folks who have bypass surgery need to be on tons of supplements for the rest of their lives! But why didn't I just diet and exercise, you say? I did! Not only did I diet and exercise, I would lose the weight and once I started eating normal again (normal like most people, not like a pig, or a hog, or a cow, or a horse!), it all came back +! You all have to understand. . . when I was 'thin' I near starved myself to stay that way. I rarely ate and when I did, it was very, very little. Why? Well, because I knew as soon as I ate like a normal person, the weight would pack on. Doing this to myself for 20+ years, I taught my body to store fat because it never knew when it was going to be fed fuel! After a few kids, I began to eat normally and I became fatter and heavier, finally topping out at 260# at 5'8" (my height is a source of contention between me and my first surgeon. He says I'm 5'7" but my new surgeon says I'm 5'8". For surgical purposes, however, being shorter increased my BMI and got me into surgery sooner so I guess I need not complain). Anyhow, back to the facts. . . .

I decided to go through with it. One of my dearest friends had had the band about 6 months before me and I was watching her lose weight and feel better, and I was so tired of my feet hurting, my back hurting, running out of breath, etc. I was ready and that was that!
